  • Gallery Reception: Rebus Plates for our Times/Assiettes Rebus pour temps qui Courent

Alberta Craft Gallery at cSPACE 1721 29 Avenue Southwest, Calgary, AB, Canada

Join us Alberta Craft Council at cSPACE for an afternoon of art, ideas, and community with Rebus Plates for Our Times / Assiettes Rébus pour Les Temps Qui Courent.

Begin your visit on Level 4 in the RGO Treehouse with a thought-provoking craft talk, Pictorial Puns: Rebus Plates for Our Times, presented by craft historian Dr. Jennifer Salahub. This engaging talk explores the rich history of rebus imagery—visual riddles that combine pictures and letters to convey layered meanings—and their evolution from 19th-century French ceramic traditions into contemporary artistic practice.

Following the talk, head down to the Alberta Craft Gallery on Level 2 for the artist reception, where you can experience the exhibition firsthand and connect with the work in a welcoming, social setting.

Rooted in a historical tradition popularized by makers such as the Faïencerie de Gien in France, rebus plates once conveyed everything from moral lessons to political commentary. This contemporary exhibition revisits and reimagines that form, offering fresh perspectives on the complexities of our current moment.

Featuring work by Montréal-born, Calgary-based artist and Professor Emerita Mireille Perron—founder of the Laboratory of Feminist Pataphysics—this exhibition reflects a playful yet critical approach to art, craft, and social discourse.

We’re proud to host this free, public event at cSPACE. Everyone is welcome to attend and experience the creativity and conversation unfolding within our community.

This exhibition is generously supported by Alliance Française.

  • Event: Frontenac House Poetry 25th Anniversary Spring Event

cSPACE Marda Loop – RGO Treehouse Suite #475

This spring, we’re excited to host a special evening celebrating poetry, storytelling, and independent publishing with the Frontenac House Poetry 25th Anniversary Spring Event.

Taking place in the RGO Treehouse on Level 4, this anniversary celebration brings together readers, writers, and poetry lovers for an engaging night of live readings and conversation. The event will feature the launch of A Single Syllable of Wild, the newest book by Angella Waldie.

Waldie will be joined by fellow authors Skyler Key, author of Transcribing Meowlight and There’s Magic Here Too, and Bruce Hunter, author of In the Bear’s House, for an evening that highlights a diversity of voices and poetic styles.

Founded in southern Alberta, Frontenac House has spent 25 years championing bold and boundary-pushing poetry from across Canada. This milestone event reflects that legacy while offering audiences a chance to connect directly with contemporary writers and their work.

The event takes place on April 24, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in the RGO Treehouse (Level 4) at cSPACE Marda Loop. For those who can’t attend in person, the celebration will also be live-streamed via Facebook Live.
