Sharon Stevens Practices the Art of Letting Go

December 26-January 1
cSPACE Eau Claire
381-2nd Avenue SW

“In the spirit of letting go, I present Artifact or Fiction. A 3-week residency at cSPACE Eau Claire to sort stuff; my artwork, memorabilia, art projects, failed projects, love letters, objects, treasures in a series of public events that feature comedy, readings, show and tale, webinars, history talks, storytelling, poetry, and fire.”

Join cSPACE Eau Claire for a special series of events celebrating the illustrious career of multi-award-winning media artist and activist, Sharon Stevens. With over 30 years of experience integrating art, activism, feminism, and social justice, Sharon has been a beacon in the realm of public, participatory art. Her unwavering belief in collaborative and meaningful art-making has led communities into artistic adventures, primarily through new media.

As Sharon embarks on the third act of her life, she invites you to witness a unique residency at cSPACE Eau Claire. This event is not just about art; it’s a journey of archiving, honoring our collective history, and embracing the liberating power of letting go. Sharon’s projects in art and social engagement have actively situated works within communities, and her dedication to public participation has been evident in her diverse body of video work, ranging from documentaries to feminist narratives and animation.

Having served on boards, juries, committees, and staffs of various arts institutions, Sharon has made a significant impact on the cultural landscape. Since 2014, she has been the part-time sole staffer at the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society (AMAAS), a Provincial Arts Service Organization. However, 2024 marks a new chapter as Sharon steps down from her part-time arts admin work to focus solely on her art practice.

Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate Sharon Stevens and her transformative influence on the intersection of art, activism, and community engagement. Join us in acknowledging her legacy and embracing the exciting evolution of her media art practice during this residency at cSPACE Eau Claire.
