Ghost Story: The Remains of Loss is a journey through some of the different ways one can cope\, both healthy and unhealthy.\nCalgary director\, performance and visual artist\, puppeteer\, and animator Stephanie Quilliams has been transforming the pain of losing her sister to suicide into a unique artistic endeavour by animating her sister’s ashes. \nFocusing on her multimedia piece “Ghost Story\,” Stephanie will share insights into her creative process\, her vision\, and the importance of using such an unconventional medium to convey her message. \nDance artist Jocelyn Mah will also be featured in a short performance\, with music composed by sound artist Ryan Hall. Located in the cSPACE Treehouse\, 4th floor.

She is interested in embodying a snake’s life stages\, and manipulating her body to transform into aspects of the snake\, or what it interacts with. Kaja will be sharing her explorations of how her body and movement can be both the puppet and the landscape. Her experimental process includes sharing physicalized pieces that may or may not make it into the finished performance\, along with behind-the-scenes video\, and costume and puppet development.

Please use the Eventbrite link to register. \nEvent 9: Tuesday September 26\n7pm: Watch and Work: Free screening Latcho Drom \nDrop in and enjoy watching and listening to this beautiful movie about the Romani people’s journey from north-west India to Spain\, consisting primarily of music. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. \nAbout the movie:  \nThe film contains very little dialogue and captions; only what is required to grasp the essential meaning of a song or conversation is translated. The film begins in the Thar Desert in Northern India and ends in Spain\, passing through Egypt\, Turkey\, Romania\, Hungary\, Slovakia\, and France. All of the Romani portrayed are actual members of the Romani community. \nThe use of music in the film is highly important. Although Latcho Drom is a documentary\, there are no interviews and none of the dialogue or lyrics is captioned.. The film relies on music to convey emotion and tell the story of the Romani. Please use the Eventbrite link to register. \nEvent 5: Monday September 11\n7pm: Watch and Work: Free screening of Powaqqatsi\, Godfrey Reggio’s 1988 film Life in Transformation \n\n\n\nDrop in and watch Powaqqatsi\, also known as Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation\, a 1988 American non-narrative film directed by Godfrey Reggio and the sequel to Reggio’s experimental 1982 film\, Koyaanisqatsi. It is the second film in the Qatsi trilogy. \nPowaqqatsi is a Hopi neologism coined by Reggio meaning “parasitic way of life” or “life in transition.” While Koyaanisqatsi focused on modern life in industrial countries\, Powaqqatsi\, which similarly has no dialogue\, focuses more on the conflict in Third World countries between traditional ways of life and the new ways of life introduced with industrialization. The footage focuses on nature\, humanity\, and the relationship between them. \nDrawing its title from the Hopi word meaning “life out of balance\,” this renowned documentary/experimental film reveals how humanity has grown apart from nature. Featuring extensive footage of natural landscapes and elemental forces\, the film gives way to many scenes of modern civilization and technology.
