DESCRIPTION:Discover your artistic self through the tactile experience of coil building ceramics in this 2 day workshop. Join the Alberta Craft Gallery-Calgary and artist Darlene Swan from 10am-12:30pm on Saturday\, October 7 & again on Saturday October 21 as we explore hand-building with coils\, and glazing & surface decoration. \nDay 1\, Saturday\, October 7 – Learn about shaping and molding ceramic forms through the technique of coil building. Finished pieces will be allowed to dry and be bisque fired for you in preparation for Day 2. \nDay 2\, Saturday October 21 – Explore glazing and surface decoration and prepare your pot for the 2nd firing. The pieces will be available for pick-up 2 weeks later after a 2nd firing.

DESCRIPTION:New and existing art works by Dana Schindelka and Danielle Bartlette \nFloors 2 and 3 cSPACE Marda Loop\nOctober 31st – November 26th\nOpening for Invited Guests Only: Thursday\, November 5pm-8pm\nLive music- Gil Tougas 5:30-7:30pm \nDana Schindelka is a Calgary based visual artist who uses mixed media to examine the relationship between recollection\, reality\, and imagination. Dana uses acrylic paint and other materials\, such as metal substrates\, collage\, metallic leafing and inks to create his art and his works have been the subject of gallery representation\, private\, and business collections. \nDanielle Bartlette was born and raised in Winnipeg\, where she attended the School of Art (Fine Arts Honours Program at the University of Manitoba). In 2000\, she moved to Calgary to further her experience as an artist and currently exhibits artwork for sale through local galleries. Her paintings are scattered in homes\, private & corporate collections around Canada\, USA\, and Europe. Danielle started her own business\, Neon Milkshake Art Studio\, in 2016 and has been facilitating art classes since 2007. \nDanielle says\, “METAL Firecrackers and the Electric Bling is a selection of works created by two artists who have creative similarities and respect for one another’s practice. We are each exhibiting new and existing works. My work will exhibit selections from past series\, as well as a number of works in a new series titled CORONARAMA (created 2020-2023) which reflects the mood\, describes events and is an emotional response to the pandemic\, at different times throughout the event. Dollar Store materials\, thrift store finds juxtaposed with top quality artist materials and 24k gold on canvas/ wooden substrates are often found in the mix.”\n \n\nTogether\, these two artists are showcasing works that will catch your eye with noisy prints and/or loud colours. Lean in close to see all the textures and detail.

This hands-on class is perfect for beginners or as a refresh for jewellery making enthusiasts. \nThere are three basic skills you need to know to get started making your own one of a kind jewellery. Designing and making jewellery is all about how you connect your components. The three useful techniques you will learn are wire wrapping\, crimping and opening and closing jump rings. If you understand how to do those three things you can really progress on your own pretty quickly. In this three hour class we will make a necklace and a pair of earrings. \nThe most fun is choosing your beads! You may bring your own from home to incorporate into your design and there are many to choose from. We will also discuss the different qualities of supplies\, where to buy your supplies and which tools you really need and where to source them.
