SUMMARY:Hallway Gallery: Holding Ground by Monica Kidd & Eveline Kolijn
DESCRIPTION:Hallway Gallery: Holding Ground by Monica Kidd & Eveline Kolijn\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2\nMarch 2 – 27\, 2026\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEveline Kolijn and Monica Kidd present a photographic inquiry of coastlines at cSPACE. \nCoastlines are dynamic by nature—meeting places where roads end and the ocean takes over\, where ships arrive and depart carrying both possibility and peril. They are the last stop before the horizon: liminal spaces where the boundary between land and not-land is constantly in flux. They are also increasingly endangered. As the planet warms\, sea levels rise and storms intensify\, threatening the health and wellbeing of more than half a billion people living in coastal regions worldwide. \nThis exhibition features photographs of people and places affected by coastal erosion\, created by Calgary-based artists Monica Kidd and Eveline Kolijn\, both of whom bring deep environmental concerns to their work. The images represent projects undertaken in Newfoundland & Labrador\, the Magdalen Islands\, Tuktoyaktuk\, France\, Fiji\, Vanuatu\, and Curaçao. \nIn a time of rapid climate change\, these photographs aim to speak for the world’s oceans and the communities connected to them. \nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 5\, 6:00–8:00 PM

SUMMARY:Hallway Gallery: Enchanted Matter by Festival of Animated Objects
DESCRIPTION:Hallway Gallery: Enchanted Matter by Festival of Animated Objects\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 1\nMarch 9 – 20\, 2026\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Enchanted Matter: Puppetry\, animation and magic” invites audiences into a world where imagination brings the inanimate to life. This exhibition celebrates the power of puppetry and video art together; art forms that not only bridge sculpture\, theatre\, and storytelling\, but are also imbued with spells and intention. \nThe artworks featured in this exhibition blur the boundaries between stillness and motion\, material and spirit. They conjure movement within stillness\, give breath to the lifeless\, and awaken the mythical beings within these objects. Each artwork pulses with the intent of its maker\, reflected in the characters\, scenery and videos featured throughout the exhibition. For each of these artists\, the process is just as important as the final creation. Hidden sigils of empowerment\, appreciation for the small things that surround them\, and a reconnection with inner playfulness and whimsy\, all inform what moves these artists to create. \n“Enchanted Matter: Puppetry\, animation and magic” welcomes you to explore the work of Abbey Leach\, Kathy Austin and Stephanie Quilliams\, and to witness the magic that fills the gallery.

SUMMARY:Hallway Gallery: The Long Way Home by Jennifer Gregoire
DESCRIPTION:Hallway Gallery: The Long Way Home by Jennifer Gregoire\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 1 Gallery\nMarch 30 – April 13\, 2026\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n  \nThe Long Way Home is a collection of some of her favorite stops along those journeys. Each photograph reflects a moment where she chose to slow down and stay awhile. The images carry a sense of history\, nostalgia\, and connection to the land. \nThis work speaks to the importance of the journey as much as the destination. It invites viewers to take their time\, notice what is often overlooked\, and find meaning in quiet\, everyday places. \n  \nAbout the Artist: \n  \nJennifer Gregoire was born and raised in Calgary\, but it wasn’t until she moved to a small rural town that her perspective began to shift. Life slowed down\, the sky felt bigger\, and she found herself drawn to the quiet places in between. \nHer work is rooted in time spent on the road. She explores backroads across Alberta\, stopping whenever something catches her eye. An old truck\, a weathered building\, or a stretch of highway that feels unchanged. What began as a way to explore gradually became a way of seeing and understanding the landscape around her. \nShe often jokes that she is a professional road-tripper\, but in many ways it’s true.

This engaging talk explores the rich history of rebus imagery—visual riddles that combine pictures and letters to convey layered meanings—and their evolution from 19th-century French ceramic traditions into contemporary artistic practice. \nFollowing the talk\, head down to the Alberta Craft Gallery on Level 2 for the artist reception\, where you can experience the exhibition firsthand and connect with the work in a welcoming\, social setting. \nRooted in a historical tradition popularized by makers such as the Faïencerie de Gien in France\, rebus plates once conveyed everything from moral lessons to political commentary. This contemporary exhibition revisits and reimagines that form\, offering fresh perspectives on the complexities of our current moment. \nFeaturing work by Montréal-born\, Calgary-based artist and Professor Emerita Mireille Perron—founder of the Laboratory of Feminist Pataphysics—this exhibition reflects a playful yet critical approach to art\, craft\, and social discourse. \nWe’re proud to host this free\, public event at cSPACE. Everyone is welcome to attend and experience the creativity and conversation unfolding within our community. \nThis exhibition is generously supported by Alliance Française. \n\nRSVP Online \n\nSCHEDULE: \n\n\n Craft Talk – 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM: Pictorial Puns: Rebus Plates for Our Times Talk with Dr. Jennifer Salahub\, Craft Historian\, RGO Treehouse 4th floor\, cSPACE\nArtist Reception – 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Alberta Craft Calgary\, 2nd floor\, cSPACE\n\nFree | Everyone Welcome

SUMMARY:FILM SCREENING: National Canadian Film Day Screening – I Like Movies
DESCRIPTION:Film Screening: National Canadian Film Day Screening – I Like Movies\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nStudio Theatre\nApril 15\, 2026\n7:30PM | Lobby opens 6:30PM\nRuntime: 99 minute. Rated 14A  \ncSPACE is proud to be a screening partner for National Canadian Film Day – returning on April 15! \n\nCanadian films tell the stories that can only be told here. Join us on April 15 and dream big with a special FREE screening of “I Like Movies.” \n \nAbout the film: \nLawrence (Lehtinen)\, an awkward and anxious 17-year-old cinephile living in Burlington\, ON\, in the early 2000s\, believes that he is on the path to a legendary filmmaking career – but at this point\, it’s only gotten him as far as a job at the local video store. His blind ambition\, combined with his unique worldview\, confounds even those closest to him\, and he soon starts to alienate his new manager Alana (D’Ugo) and even his best friend (Hynes White)\, forcing him to decide what he’s willing to sacrifice on the road to success. \nA true movie for movie lovers\, Chandler Levack’s debut feature is a charming coming-of-age story that perfectly captures small-town Canadian adolescence. \nClick here to watch the trailer \n\nSee you on April 15th at 7:30pm for popcorn\, beverages and to enjoy Canadian film right here in our Studio Theatre at cSPACE MARDA LOOP. \nRSVP to reserve your FREE ticket here. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hallway Gallery: The Human Moment by Dipankar Mukherjee
DESCRIPTION:Hallway Gallery: The Human Moment by Dipankar Mukherjee\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 4 Gallery\nApril 27 – May 25\, 2026\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nIn The Human Moment\, Calgary-based photographer Dipankar Mukherjee presents a series of images that explore fleeting\, unguarded interactions across everyday life. \nCaptured across diverse geographies—these photographs focus not on spectacle\, but on subtle\, often overlooked moments: a passing glance\, a solitary walk\, an unspoken exchange. Each image resists easy interpretation\, inviting viewers to pause and reflect—these photographs focus not on spectacle\, but on subtle\, often overlooked moments: a passing glance\, a solitary walk\, an unspoken exchange. Each image resists easy interpretation\, inviting viewers to pause and reflect. \nRather than telling complete stories\, the work offers fragments—open-ended and unresolved. Viewers are encouraged to engage with the images through their own experiences\, assumptions\, and perspectives. \nAt its core\, The Human Moment is an exploration of how we see one another. It quietly asks: What do we notice? What do we miss? And what happens when we truly stop to look? \nThis exhibition is designed not just to be viewed\, but to be experienced—creating space for reflection\, dialogue\, and connection. \n  \n \n  \n
