DESCRIPTION:Great Treasures of Gold: A Canadian Latter-day Saint Religious Art Exhibition\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 3 & 4 \nNovember 7 – November 27\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays)\nOpening Reception: November 6 | 6:30-9:00pm \nThis exhibition celebrates the rich tradition of Latter-day Saint art in Canada\, featuring nearly 100 original works by both living and deceased Canadian artists. The showcase highlights the diverse expressions of faith and creativity that have emerged within the community. \nThe title\, “Great Treasures of Gold\,” is inspired by a conversation between early pioneer Charles Card and Samuel Smith\, the brother of Joseph Smith\, Jr. Smith recalled a prophecy made in an 1843 priesthood meeting within the Nauvoo Temple\, in which it was stated that “[Canada] would never persecute the Saints as a nation. She would gather up great treasures of gold and yet we should seek refuge in her dominion.” \nThe phrase “Great Treasures of Gold” symbolizes not only the material wealth Canada was prophesied to gather\, but also the spiritual and cultural richness accumulated over more than a century of Latter-day Saint presence in the country. This exhibition pays tribute to the enduring artistic legacy that has flourished within this land of refuge.

Methods and Mediums to Create Unique Art \nCreate a beautiful mixed media piece with zero experience. Explore a variety of paints and stains\, pyrography\, metal leaf and more. \nLearn something new and have fun during this hands on mixed media exploration. All supplies are included in this 4 hour workshop. This small class is perfect for those who are new to art and craft or mixed media. or looking for new inspiration to liven up your practice. This is also a good opportunity to try the Razer Tip Woodburning tool before you buy one if you are interested. In this 4 hour workshop you will learn step by step how to create a mixed media work of art. Little art experience is necessary just some time and patience. You will have the option of using a variety of paints\, including watercolour\, gouache\, acrylic and wood stain. You will learn about the properties of all of them and the order you want to use them. You will learn about composite metal leaf\, including gold\, copper and silver and how to apply it. You will have the option of using the wood burning machine to create your design or add some detail. We will go over how to apply 3-D objects with the best type of glue for the job and how to seal your work if necessary. Mixed media explorations can be used to create a new vocabuary for your artwork if you already have a practice or send you in the right direction with some foundtional skills if you are just starting out. If you choose to use the woodburning tool we will go over the difference between the wood burning tools that are available and how to incorporate the technique into mixed media work. Feel free to bring your own reference material to trace or draw from or use templates provided. Some people freehand and just go for it and some people use reference material and trace their design. You can also do a bit of both:) Magically everyone does something totally different and unique to them! It’s a fun thing to do for a date night or a new activity with friends or family. She doesn’t speak English; she dresses up and brings flowers for the teacher on the first day. Canada is a strange new place that is now\, unexpectedly\, her new home. She doesn’t understand much of what is going on\, will anyone be her friend? \nThe Understandable Girl is a story of the importance of a first friendship between a young Canadian girl and young Ukrainian refugee told through the universal language of creative play and puppetry using English and easily understood Ukrainian. DESCRIPTION:Alberta Craft Council Presents: Artist Reception for Victoria Sanchez\n\n\n\nRSVP HERE \n\nEveryone is invited to meet the artist at this free SPOTLIGHT Reception for Traces of Becoming by Victoria Sanchez\n\n\n\nWe are pleased to host a public reception with the artist in attendance on November 22 from 2-4 pm. \nAbout the artist Victoria Sanchez \nArtist Statement: \n“Traces of Becoming” reflects a conscious yet playful return to making — a rekindling of my art/jewellery practice as I learn to be a mother and navigate a journey of healing and acceptance. Much like Parenthood\, my ideal process is rooted in passed-on knowledge\, increasingly shaped by instinct and trust. The handmade mark\, the hammer\, the unrepeatable form — each trace becomes both a decision and a memory: an echo of care\, of intention\, and of the quiet hope that I might get it right. \nArtist Bio: Victoria Sanchez is a jeweller\, visual artist\, and arts administrator currently based in Treaty 7 land — Calgary. a jeweller by training (ACAD 2012)\, she likes to explore the intent of personal adornment\, spontaneity and adaptation\, and most importantly\, making with intention and the evidence of human touch. \nReception: Saturday\, November 22\, 2025 | 2 – 4 pm \nAlberta Craft SPOTLIGHT – Calgary cSPACE – Marda Loop\, 2nd floor\, 1729 – 29 Avenue SW\, Calgary \nThe parking lot and accessible entrance are off 29 Avenue.
