SUMMARY:Patchwork Pronoun Earrings with artist Laura Olive
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Culture Days with the Alberta Craft Council and Laura Olive\nIn this workshop\, participants will learn the basics of hand sewing and embroidery by making mixed-media earrings made primarily of felt fabric. Providing an inclusive\, trans-friendly space to get creative\, chat\, and have fun! Participants will be given the freedom to experiment with the materials available to create a project they’re excited about. At the end\, they will leave with 1 pair of custom earrings that include their pronouns. \nThese free workshops are designed for ages 13 and up and will last up to 120 minutes. \nAbout the instructor: Laura Olive is an interdisciplinary emerging artist based in Calgary\, Alberta working on their final year at AUArts in the Media Arts Program. DESCRIPTION:Calling all Craftivists\, Sewists\, DIYers\, Designers\, and Artists!\nCome join us for our second Fabric Swap! Our first one was such a fun success\, we’ve decided to hold another! We all have fabric that we love but may never use\, right? Let’s stir up some new inspirational energy and trade with each other! We will have tables set up outside our studio on September 28th for you to lay down your fabric\, and peruse what each other has contributed. \nThe rules for our first swap are: \n* Clean\, useable fabrics only \n* Be thoughtful about the items you take\, and what you will make. Take what inspires you but also leave some for others to be inspired:) \n* You are not obligated to take anything with you\, but please also be thoughtful about the amount you drop off to us. \n* No notions or tools ( we want to keep it simple for our first year to work out any bugs!) \n* No clothing \n* Bring a bag to tote home your finds \nThe tables will be out all day from 11am to 4 pm – come chat with fellow fabric enthusiasts! Take in and take home some fabric! We will donate whatever is still with us at the end of the day to local schools. \nAfter you’ve perused the swap\, come into the studio and say hi! DESCRIPTION:Learn to burn! This intro covers everything you need to know to get started.\n\n\nIntroduction to Wood Burning (Pyrography) for Beginners \nLearn something new and have fun during this hands on workshop. This small class is perfect for those who are new to wood burning and want to explore the art of pyrography. This is also a good opportunity to try the Razer Tip Woodburning tool before you buy one. You will learn step by step how to create a wood burned work of art. Little art experience is necessary just some time and patience. There is something very soothing and relaxing about burning patterns into wood. You will learn how to use the wood-burner safely. We will go over the difference between the wood burning tools that are available. You will learn how to transfer your drawing onto the wood\, which wood works best\, and how to add a bit of colour. Wood is supplied and the tool that we use is the Razer Tip woodburning system. Feel free to bring your own reference material to trace or draw from or use templates provided. Some people freehand and just go for it and some people use reference material and trace their design. You can also do a bit of both:) Magically everyone does something totally different and unique to them! It’s a fun thing to do for a date night or a new activity with friends or family. There are only 4 people maximum in a class\, ages 12 and up.
