SUMMARY:SHIFT Book Launch Party
DESCRIPTION:After five and a half years\, the middle grade book I cooked has finally been published. Please join me as I celebrate the launch of SHIFT!\n\n\nI’m letting the kids do the talking. A panel of 11 and 12 year olds will be interviewing me about the book\, the process of writing and anything else about which they are curious. The party is happening in the RGO TREEHOUSE on the 4th floor of cSPACE Marda Loop. \nIt’s my immense pleasure to introduce 12-year-old Dax Masters to the world. He is smart and funny and a but weird sometimes\, but his best friends Avery and Kayla love him and his passion for science. It’s his focus on science that leads Dax to a discovery that can change the planet\, but he has to convince the world’s leading scientists that he’s right. But first\, he has to win the science fair\, get invited to the big deal Innovative Science Convention\, and show his Dad he’s not imagining things. \nFood and beverages will be served. Books will be available for purchase on-site (thank you\, Owl’s Nest Books!)

There will be great story sharing\, good conversation and lots of take-away inspiration. \nGreat for puppeteers\, movement artists\, drama teachers and anyone excited about puppet animation or creativity in general! \n“Puzzle Theatre has a unique style by combining various types in the traditional and the contemporary: drama theatre\, object and puppet theatre. The company distinguishes itself by the coloured amalgam of styles and the great diversity of means of expression that it proposes. Leaving the audience the freedom to interpret the unmentioned\, to freely associate ideas and allowing them to feel what is not explicitly told.” \nLocation: RGO Treehouse Classroom. cSPACE Marda Loop top floor (beautiful mountain views). Elevators go to the top floor. cSPACE is an accessible space\, enter from parking lot on the north side of the building. Free street parking\, cycling infrastructure like bike racks and showers\, convenient access to public transit\, Bus routes 6\, 7\, 107\, 13. \nAccessibility: We are committed to the purposeful inclusion of all people. It explores the theory and practice of how puppet power promotes and impacts positive social change. In 2023 we ask\, how can puppets\, ‘metaphors of matter’\, help us address our material world?

SUMMARY:Unveiling Post-Consumer Paper’s Potential with Puppets (In Person)
DESCRIPTION:In this hands-on workshop for Reggio-inspired educators\, participants will discover the storytelling potential of post-consumer papers.\n\n\nGuided by artist and educator Jennifer Stables\, participants will delve into the art of crafting handheld mask puppets and exploring their use in the classroom. Participants will be invited to engage with a variety of post-consumer papers (magazines\, newspapers\, tissue paper\, gift wrap\, office paper\, old books\, paper bags\, etc.) by folding\, bending\, cutting\, and crumpling them. They will be encouraged to play and explore using their sense of sight\, sound\, smell\, and touch. They will be asked to reflect on the story of the paper. Where did it come from? Who has it been? This exploration will allow educators to gain a deeper understanding of the materials and explore their potential for creative expression. \nFollowing this exploration\, participants will have the opportunity to share their findings and insights with one another. This conversation will hopefully foster a sense of community and inspire new ideas and approaches to working with papers. \nBuilding upon their discoveries\, participants will then be guided to create their own handheld mask puppets. Rather than following a step-by-step process\, participants will be encouraged to apply their discoveries and insights to their own unique creations. They will be invited to use techniques such as layering\, crumpling\, and folding the paper to create different forms. \nTo finish the mask puppet\, a wooden dowel will be attached to the back to create a handle. Participants will be encouraged to explore moving and performing their mask puppets. There will be time for presentation\, sharing\, and reflection at the end of the class. \nJoin Jennifer on Saturday\, November 25th\, from 13:00 – 15:30 HRS (MST) for this engaging workshop. \nBio: Jennifer Stables is an experienced Artist and Art Educator with a background in Reggio-Inspired teaching and learning. Her whimsical artwork includes puppets\, paintings\, sculptures\, and illustrations. She has created community art programs\, worked as an art educator and classroom teacher\, and currently works as an Artist in Residence for schools in Calgary and surrounding areas.

SUMMARY:Intersections 1: Financial Literacy
DESCRIPTION:Explore key financial reporting\, budgeting\, and forecasting concepts to strengthen NFP financial understanding and decision-making.\n\n\nAs part of the Rozsa Foundations’ ongoing commitment to supporting Alberta arts leaders\, this Intersections session (part of the Rozsa Foundations of Arts Leadership program) is being made available to arts leaders outside of the program. \nUnder the leadership of Dr. Peggy Hedges of the Haskayne School of Business\, the session will explore some of the essential elements of financial reporting\, cash flow\, forecasting\, and budgeting that often challenges not-for-profit organizations. The session will investigate the similarities of financial forecasting in the budgeting and grant application processes. \nBy the end of this session participants will be able to: \n* Identify essential elements of financial reporting\, cash flow\, forecasting and budgeting \n* Calculate and interpret a few financial ratios that can be used to provide insights into areas which need further analysis \n* Perform a basic break-even analysis to support a strategic decision
