As a professional Korean artist active in both Canada and Korea\, I have had the pleasure of time many aspiring artists here in Calgary. Through painting and working with them\, we have accumulated a collection of excellent works. We are now hosting an exhibition at cSPACE to showcase these pieces. I hope to introduce their passionate world of art to many people and inspire and motivate these young artists by sharing and appreciating their work.

My photography concentrates on natural landscapes and human architecture. I have a  landscape photography series called “The Sixteen\,” where I feature different landmarks of Alberta and different cities around the world. \nAs a photographer I am drawn to the beauty of simple images\, and I am always inspired by beautiful light. Photograph gives me the option to document what I see and what I feel. This is how I personally tell stories\, preserve memories\, and capture a moment. \nAdditionally\, I do portrait photography\, where I mainly focus on headshots\, couples and people who want to bring their personal brands to a different level.”

This exhibition is designed to be a journey into the many forms joy takes though an artist’s creations. Most of Carmine’s work is informed by their journey navigating a very chaotic and melancholic mind: bright and hopeful but equally existential and depressive. This collection highlights that dichotomy by bringing together works that were created with a desire to discover what things bring joy regardless of their state of mind. \nPaint flowing in whatever way made sense and made the canvas more inviting; the flow of ink as an understanding of its nature grew; the soothing rhythm of bringing needle to fabric in a orderly way; favorite bits and pieces of paper coming together to create new things; the smooth glide of mud under a spatula; or bringing to light places that would better suit being in a story. \nCome enjoy this diverse collection of eclectic palettes and surreal expressions that lean into the fantastical & abstract\, created in a wide range of mediums: collage\, paint\, embroidery\, and more. \nAbout the Artist \nCarmine Aspen is a Calgary born mixed-media artist. They specialize in finding new and fun ways to mix up all kinds of mediums together to create colourful\, surreal\, and abstract pieces. If they can use their hands to make something pretty and chaotic\, they’re in. They’ve been creating since they were a child as a way to keep their active ADHD brain happy and as a much-needed source of relief from an ongoing series of mental health issues. They choose to see art in everything and truly believe anything can be used for art. When they’re not creating physical art\, you can find them immersed in Calgary’s vibrant writing and live performance scenes. \n

DESCRIPTION:Great Treasures of Gold: A Canadian Latter-day Saint Religious Art Exhibition\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 3 & 4 \nNovember 7 – November 27\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays)\nOpening Reception: November 6 | 6:30-9:00pm \nThis exhibition celebrates the rich tradition of Latter-day Saint art in Canada\, featuring nearly 100 original works by both living and deceased Canadian artists. The showcase highlights the diverse expressions of faith and creativity that have emerged within the community. \nThe title\, “Great Treasures of Gold\,” is inspired by a conversation between early pioneer Charles Card and Samuel Smith\, the brother of Joseph Smith\, Jr. Smith recalled a prophecy made in an 1843 priesthood meeting within the Nauvoo Temple\, in which it was stated that “[Canada] would never persecute the Saints as a nation. She would gather up great treasures of gold and yet we should seek refuge in her dominion.” \nThe phrase “Great Treasures of Gold” symbolizes not only the material wealth Canada was prophesied to gather\, but also the spiritual and cultural richness accumulated over more than a century of Latter-day Saint presence in the country. This exhibition pays tribute to the enduring artistic legacy that has flourished within this land of refuge.

DESCRIPTION:Exposure Photography Festival x The Camera Store\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nAll Levels\nFebruary 4 – February 28\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nReception: February 12 @ 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM | As part of cSPACE Marda Loop’s February Showcase Series \n\nThe Exposure Photography Festival is a month-long celebration of photography across Alberta.\nAs part of The Exposure Festival’s Partner Exhibitions\, The Camera Store will transform cSPACE’s four levels of Hallway Galleries with four compelling exhibitions\, offering a dynamic and meaningful celebration of photography’s lasting influence. \n\nLEVEL 1: My life through the lens – Julian Ferreira Exhibition\nJulian Ferreira\, known in the photographic community for being a passionate advocate of the philosophy “always have a camera with you.” Guided by this belief\, he continually observes and photographs the world around him\, creating images as he moves through his Southern Alberta prairie home. From quiet\, expansive landscapes to subtle moments of light and form\, his work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between place\, presence\, and perception.  \nWorking primarily as a fine art black-and-white photographer and co-owner of The Camera Store\, Ferreira’s exhibition presents a selection of his most recent work. These photographs offer viewers an intimate glimpse into the way he sees\, thoughtful\, deliberate\, and deeply connected to the land he calls home\, inviting them to slow down and engage with the subtle beauty found in everyday surroundings. \n\nLEVEL 2: Brian Henson Memorial Exhibition\nBrian Henson was a highly regarded fine art photographer based in Calgary\, known for his dedication to traditional photographic processes and his striking hand-printed black-and-white work. He was also a longtime friend of The Camera Store and a valued presence within Calgary’s photographic community. Brian passed away in 2022\, leaving behind a meaningful and enduring legacy of meticulously crafted\, hand-printed and framed photographs that reflect both his artistic vision and his commitment to the medium.  \nIn accordance with the wishes of his estate\, Brian’s work will be offered for sale\, with all proceeds donated to the RESET Society of Calgary. RESET provides a comprehensive and compassionate system of support services in Alberta\, specifically designed to assist women who are survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Through this initiative\, Brian’s art continues to make a lasting impact\, honouring his legacy while supporting an organization dedicated to healing\, empowerment\, and positive change. \n\nLEVEL 3: Then & Now 30 Years of Calgary Photography\nIn celebration of 30 years within Calgary’s photography community\, The Camera Store is proud to present a special group exhibition. This milestone exhibition highlights the talent\, perspectives\, and creative evolution of Calgary’s photographic scene\, seen through the lenses of a selection of photographers who have helped shape and support it over the past three decades including\, George Webber\, Greg Fulmes\, Greg Gerla\, Jason Stang\, Jeff Bright\, John Dean\, Leah Hennel\, Maja Swannie Jacob\, Mark Vitaris\, Matt and Harry Palmer\, Mike Drew\, Steve Speer\, and\, Todd Korol.  \nThe images are presented side by side\, creating a visual narrative of time\, change\, and creative growth. This exhibition is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Sony Canada\, with additional support from ABL\, the official printing partner of the Exposure Photography Festival.\n \n\nLEVEL 4: The Camera Store Staff Exhibition\nThe Camera Store Staff Exhibition brings together the photographic voices of The Camera Store staff who live and breathe photography every day.  \nThis exhibition showcases a diverse range of work\, reflecting the varied perspectives\, styles\, and stories.
