DESCRIPTION:Abstrait Liquide by Patricia Lortie\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nGallery Level 3\nSeptember 9 – October 6\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n\n\n\nThe Alliance Française is delighted to host “Abstrait Liquide” by Patricia Lortie. \nHer work — including installations\, paintings\, sculptures\, and videos — explores the body’s connection to natural ecosystems\, blending the real and the unconscious to reveal a poetic sensibility. \n“Abstrait Liquide” is a series of acrylic paintings inspired by the movement of natural water systems. Filmed above and below the surface\, subtle ripples\, reflections\, and light guide each brushstroke. The works capture fleeting moments of water\, inviting reflection on nature’s rhythms and patterns. \nThe exhibition will be on view from September 9 to October 6. DESCRIPTION:Building Blocks by Sean Drysdale\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nGallery Level 3\nOctober 7 – November 1\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n\n\n\nSean Drysdale returns to cSPACE with version 3 of Building Blocks\, an exhibition of large images. \n\nArtist’s Talk:  \nThursday\, October 16 | 5:30pm-7:45pm \nIn Attendance:  \n\nWednesday\, October 8 | 6-8pm\nSaturday October 25 | 1-3pm\nSaturday November 1 | 1-3pm\nOr by arrangement\n\nClosing Reception: \nThursday\, October 30 | 5:00-7:30pm \nAbout the Artist: \nSean Drysdale graduated from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1984\, where he studied photography. Subsequent studies in mathematics and computers at Simon Fraser University led to a career in information management. \nHe returned to photography as an art form in 2016. By 2023\, he concluded that the world did not need another photographer. The label had always felt like a shirt occasionally worn but never entirely comfortable. Instead\, he began calling himself a wanderer—a description that felt far more fitting. To Drysdale\, this is a liberating and playful identity\, one that frees them from unhelpful personal expectations and existential questions such as what defines a “real” photographer.

DESCRIPTION:Great Treasures of Gold: A Canadian Latter-day Saint Religious Art Exhibition\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 3 & 4 \nNovember 7 – November 27\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays)\nOpening Reception: November 6 | 6:30-9:00pm \nThis exhibition celebrates the rich tradition of Latter-day Saint art in Canada\, featuring nearly 100 original works by both living and deceased Canadian artists. The showcase highlights the diverse expressions of faith and creativity that have emerged within the community. \nThe title\, “Great Treasures of Gold\,” is inspired by a conversation between early pioneer Charles Card and Samuel Smith\, the brother of Joseph Smith\, Jr. Smith recalled a prophecy made in an 1843 priesthood meeting within the Nauvoo Temple\, in which it was stated that “[Canada] would never persecute the Saints as a nation. She would gather up great treasures of gold and yet we should seek refuge in her dominion.” \nThe phrase “Great Treasures of Gold” symbolizes not only the material wealth Canada was prophesied to gather\, but also the spiritual and cultural richness accumulated over more than a century of Latter-day Saint presence in the country. This exhibition pays tribute to the enduring artistic legacy that has flourished within this land of refuge.

DESCRIPTION:Exposure Photography Festival x The Camera Store\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nAll Levels\nFebruary 4 – February 28\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nReception: February 12 @ 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM | As part of cSPACE Marda Loop’s February Showcase Series \n\nThe Exposure Photography Festival is a month-long celebration of photography across Alberta.\nAs part of The Exposure Festival’s Partner Exhibitions\, The Camera Store will transform cSPACE’s four levels of Hallway Galleries with four compelling exhibitions\, offering a dynamic and meaningful celebration of photography’s lasting influence. \n\nLEVEL 1: My life through the lens – Julian Ferreira Exhibition\nJulian Ferreira\, known in the photographic community for being a passionate advocate of the philosophy “always have a camera with you.” Guided by this belief\, he continually observes and photographs the world around him\, creating images as he moves through his Southern Alberta prairie home. From quiet\, expansive landscapes to subtle moments of light and form\, his work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between place\, presence\, and perception.  \nWorking primarily as a fine art black-and-white photographer and co-owner of The Camera Store\, Ferreira’s exhibition presents a selection of his most recent work. These photographs offer viewers an intimate glimpse into the way he sees\, thoughtful\, deliberate\, and deeply connected to the land he calls home\, inviting them to slow down and engage with the subtle beauty found in everyday surroundings. \n\nLEVEL 2: Brian Henson Memorial Exhibition\nBrian Henson was a highly regarded fine art photographer based in Calgary\, known for his dedication to traditional photographic processes and his striking hand-printed black-and-white work. He was also a longtime friend of The Camera Store and a valued presence within Calgary’s photographic community. Brian passed away in 2022\, leaving behind a meaningful and enduring legacy of meticulously crafted\, hand-printed and framed photographs that reflect both his artistic vision and his commitment to the medium.  \nIn accordance with the wishes of his estate\, Brian’s work will be offered for sale\, with all proceeds donated to the RESET Society of Calgary. RESET provides a comprehensive and compassionate system of support services in Alberta\, specifically designed to assist women who are survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Through this initiative\, Brian’s art continues to make a lasting impact\, honouring his legacy while supporting an organization dedicated to healing\, empowerment\, and positive change. \n\nLEVEL 3: Then & Now 30 Years of Calgary Photography\nIn celebration of 30 years within Calgary’s photography community\, The Camera Store is proud to present a special group exhibition. This milestone exhibition highlights the talent\, perspectives\, and creative evolution of Calgary’s photographic scene\, seen through the lenses of a selection of photographers who have helped shape and support it over the past three decades including\, George Webber\, Greg Fulmes\, Greg Gerla\, Jason Stang\, Jeff Bright\, John Dean\, Leah Hennel\, Maja Swannie Jacob\, Mark Vitaris\, Matt and Harry Palmer\, Mike Drew\, Steve Speer\, and\, Todd Korol.  \nThe images are presented side by side\, creating a visual narrative of time\, change\, and creative growth. This exhibition is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Sony Canada\, with additional support from ABL\, the official printing partner of the Exposure Photography Festival.\n \n\nLEVEL 4: The Camera Store Staff Exhibition\nThe Camera Store Staff Exhibition brings together the photographic voices of The Camera Store staff who live and breathe photography every day.  \nThis exhibition showcases a diverse range of work\, reflecting the varied perspectives\, styles\, and stories. Having spent much of her life in kitchens\, she began to wonder:\n\nHow would a chef introduce themselves?\n\n‘A Tasting Menu’ is presented as a 12-course menu\, where each painting is a snapshot—a carefully curated plate that blends emotions\, memories\, and circumstances into a singular experience. Every “course” explores her favourite flavours and how they have shaped her. These paintings act as a visual pairing\, crafted to evoke a sensory experience that is deeply personal\, yet universal.\n\n‘A Tasting Menu’ is not just a collection of artworks—it’s an intimate invitation to join her for dinner.

Developed over two years of artistic inquiry and experimentation\, the exhibition features a diverse range of media and personal investigations that reflect each student’s unique creative voice. \nThrough drawing\, painting\, mixed media\, fibre arts\, and digital processes\, the artists explore personal themes and directions\, some of which include memory\, identity\, change\, and the passage of time. The exhibition invites visitors to experience thoughtful and compelling works that capture the curiosity\, reflection\, and growth of emerging young artists. \nOpening reception on April 2 from 5:30–7:30 PM in the RGO Treehouse. \n\n \n
