DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2 Gallery \nSolo show of portraits by Lenore Gish. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nI SEE YOU is a tribute to the women in my life.. This collection of work delves into the complex\, diverse and intriguing community of women who have become part of my world. These ladies are a cumulation of family\, friends\, and strangers who have wandered through my studio. \nA number of my works in I SEE YOU are watercolour on paper. I’ve surrounded them with multiple layers of acrylic paint\, paper\, fabric\, inks\, pencil and sewing machine stitches. Using mixed media enabled me to create visual interest and tension on the surface\, emphasizing the beauty and wisdom of my subject. The layering process represents my long history with quilt making\, especially my delight at creating details that can only be appreciated close up. Lastly the stitching is an integral part of my work. Not only is the stitching a part of my history\, it is the common thread between us all. \nIt is my hope that viewers will connect with the narratives woven within each piece. From strength to vulnerability\, resilience to introspection\, “I SEE YOU” is especially sensitive to how woman have struggled to feel ”seen” in history. It is an exploration of identity\, empowerment\, and the universal threads that bind us all. Step into my world where through the language of art\, the female narrative takes center stage.

SUMMARY:Alison Frank’s Love Aquatic
DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2 Gallery\nApril 29-May 11\, 2024 \nLove Aquatic is an art exhibition featuring the painting\, drawing and photography by Alison Frank. It is the merger of her work as a visual artist and as a professional mermaid. Her paintings in this collection are inspired by the beauty experienced and captured through her freediving as a mermaid. The underwater world is a tranquil escape where time and daily pressures seem to dissolve. Water and the gravity free environment have many therapeutic healing benefits from fitness to pain relief. This solstice has been one component\, for her\, in managing a diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis in a holistic approach. To this underwater world\, she adds her surreal and playful mix of characters. Children gravitate to water and the joy of swimming. As adults\, we often lose our affinity for this magical place. She visually shares the ephemeral beauty of the way water reflects light in a way we can never experience above the surface. Through this exhibition\, she hopes to connect to viewers in a way that might inspire them to revisit the water and experience it’s many benefits. \nInstagram: @snowbunnymermaid

DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nGallery Level 2\nThe Month of April \n\nMotto:  \nThere is a crack\, a crack in everything. \nThat’s how the light gets in. \n(Leonard Cohen\, Anthem) \n\nA collection of B&W photographs that explores the power of the sun light and its interaction with our daily living. The photographs will take the viewer through the same apartment at different times of the day\, from waking to night. The images let you discover new interesting details of the living spaces that may be otherwise forgotten. \n\nArtist’s Statement – Tony Settari\nTony Settari\, born and trained in the Czech Republic\, developed an early passion for art and music alongside a career in engineering. After moving to Calgary in 1969\, he was inspired by an Ansel Adams retrospective\, which ignited his interest in large-format photography. While his professional career in academia and consulting limited his artistic pursuits for some time\, retirement allowed him to fully return to photography. Today\, his work blends traditional analog techniques with digital processes\, focusing primarily on black-and-white imagery that emphasizes simplicity and minimal reliance on technology.

DESCRIPTION:Exposure Photography Festival x The Camera Store\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nAll Levels\nFebruary 4 – February 28\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nReception: February 12 @ 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM | As part of cSPACE Marda Loop’s February Showcase Series \n\nThe Exposure Photography Festival is a month-long celebration of photography across Alberta.\nAs part of The Exposure Festival’s Partner Exhibitions\, The Camera Store will transform cSPACE’s four levels of Hallway Galleries with four compelling exhibitions\, offering a dynamic and meaningful celebration of photography’s lasting influence. \n\nLEVEL 1: My life through the lens – Julian Ferreira Exhibition\nJulian Ferreira\, known in the photographic community for being a passionate advocate of the philosophy “always have a camera with you.” Guided by this belief\, he continually observes and photographs the world around him\, creating images as he moves through his Southern Alberta prairie home. From quiet\, expansive landscapes to subtle moments of light and form\, his work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between place\, presence\, and perception.  \nWorking primarily as a fine art black-and-white photographer and co-owner of The Camera Store\, Ferreira’s exhibition presents a selection of his most recent work. These photographs offer viewers an intimate glimpse into the way he sees\, thoughtful\, deliberate\, and deeply connected to the land he calls home\, inviting them to slow down and engage with the subtle beauty found in everyday surroundings. \n\nLEVEL 2: Brian Henson Memorial Exhibition\nBrian Henson was a highly regarded fine art photographer based in Calgary\, known for his dedication to traditional photographic processes and his striking hand-printed black-and-white work. He was also a longtime friend of The Camera Store and a valued presence within Calgary’s photographic community. Brian passed away in 2022\, leaving behind a meaningful and enduring legacy of meticulously crafted\, hand-printed and framed photographs that reflect both his artistic vision and his commitment to the medium.  \nIn accordance with the wishes of his estate\, Brian’s work will be offered for sale\, with all proceeds donated to the RESET Society of Calgary. RESET provides a comprehensive and compassionate system of support services in Alberta\, specifically designed to assist women who are survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Through this initiative\, Brian’s art continues to make a lasting impact\, honouring his legacy while supporting an organization dedicated to healing\, empowerment\, and positive change. \n\nLEVEL 3: Then & Now 30 Years of Calgary Photography\nIn celebration of 30 years within Calgary’s photography community\, The Camera Store is proud to present a special group exhibition. This milestone exhibition highlights the talent\, perspectives\, and creative evolution of Calgary’s photographic scene\, seen through the lenses of a selection of photographers who have helped shape and support it over the past three decades including\, George Webber\, Greg Fulmes\, Greg Gerla\, Jason Stang\, Jeff Bright\, John Dean\, Leah Hennel\, Maja Swannie Jacob\, Mark Vitaris\, Matt and Harry Palmer\, Mike Drew\, Steve Speer\, and\, Todd Korol.  \nThe images are presented side by side\, creating a visual narrative of time\, change\, and creative growth. This exhibition is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Sony Canada\, with additional support from ABL\, the official printing partner of the Exposure Photography Festival.\n \n\nLEVEL 4: The Camera Store Staff Exhibition\nThe Camera Store Staff Exhibition brings together the photographic voices of The Camera Store staff who live and breathe photography every day.  \nThis exhibition showcases a diverse range of work\, reflecting the varied perspectives\, styles\, and stories. DESCRIPTION:Hallway Gallery: Holding Ground by Monica Kidd & Eveline Kolijn\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2\nMarch 2 – 27\, 2026\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEveline Kolijn and Monica Kidd present a photographic inquiry of coastlines at cSPACE. \nCoastlines are dynamic by nature—meeting places where roads end and the ocean takes over\, where ships arrive and depart carrying both possibility and peril. They are the last stop before the horizon: liminal spaces where the boundary between land and not-land is constantly in flux. They are also increasingly endangered. As the planet warms\, sea levels rise and storms intensify\, threatening the health and wellbeing of more than half a billion people living in coastal regions worldwide. \nThis exhibition features photographs of people and places affected by coastal erosion\, created by Calgary-based artists Monica Kidd and Eveline Kolijn\, both of whom bring deep environmental concerns to their work. The images represent projects undertaken in Newfoundland & Labrador\, the Magdalen Islands\, Tuktoyaktuk\, France\, Fiji\, Vanuatu\, and Curaçao. \nIn a time of rapid climate change\, these photographs aim to speak for the world’s oceans and the communities connected to them. \nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 5\, 6:00–8:00 PM
