DESCRIPTION:New and existing art works by Dana Schindelka and Danielle Bartlette \nFloors 2 and 3 cSPACE Marda Loop\nOctober 31st – November 26th\nOpening for Invited Guests Only: Thursday\, November 5pm-8pm\nLive music- Gil Tougas 5:30-7:30pm \nDana Schindelka is a Calgary based visual artist who uses mixed media to examine the relationship between recollection\, reality\, and imagination. Dana uses acrylic paint and other materials\, such as metal substrates\, collage\, metallic leafing and inks to create his art and his works have been the subject of gallery representation\, private\, and business collections. \nDanielle Bartlette was born and raised in Winnipeg\, where she attended the School of Art (Fine Arts Honours Program at the University of Manitoba). In 2000\, she moved to Calgary to further her experience as an artist and currently exhibits artwork for sale through local galleries. Her paintings are scattered in homes\, private & corporate collections around Canada\, USA\, and Europe. Danielle started her own business\, Neon Milkshake Art Studio\, in 2016 and has been facilitating art classes since 2007. \nDanielle says\, “METAL Firecrackers and the Electric Bling is a selection of works created by two artists who have creative similarities and respect for one another’s practice. We are each exhibiting new and existing works. My work will exhibit selections from past series\, as well as a number of works in a new series titled CORONARAMA (created 2020-2023) which reflects the mood\, describes events and is an emotional response to the pandemic\, at different times throughout the event. Dollar Store materials\, thrift store finds juxtaposed with top quality artist materials and 24k gold on canvas/ wooden substrates are often found in the mix.”\n \n\nTogether\, these two artists are showcasing works that will catch your eye with noisy prints and/or loud colours. DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2 Gallery \nSolo show of portraits by Lenore Gish. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nI SEE YOU is a tribute to the women in my life.. This collection of work delves into the complex\, diverse and intriguing community of women who have become part of my world. These ladies are a cumulation of family\, friends\, and strangers who have wandered through my studio. \nA number of my works in I SEE YOU are watercolour on paper. I’ve surrounded them with multiple layers of acrylic paint\, paper\, fabric\, inks\, pencil and sewing machine stitches. Using mixed media enabled me to create visual interest and tension on the surface\, emphasizing the beauty and wisdom of my subject. The layering process represents my long history with quilt making\, especially my delight at creating details that can only be appreciated close up. Lastly the stitching is an integral part of my work. Not only is the stitching a part of my history\, it is the common thread between us all. \nIt is my hope that viewers will connect with the narratives woven within each piece. From strength to vulnerability\, resilience to introspection\, “I SEE YOU” is especially sensitive to how woman have struggled to feel ”seen” in history. It is an exploration of identity\, empowerment\, and the universal threads that bind us all. Step into my world where through the language of art\, the female narrative takes center stage.

SUMMARY:Alison Frank’s Love Aquatic
DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2 Gallery\nApril 29-May 11\, 2024 \nLove Aquatic is an art exhibition featuring the painting\, drawing and photography by Alison Frank. It is the merger of her work as a visual artist and as a professional mermaid. Her paintings in this collection are inspired by the beauty experienced and captured through her freediving as a mermaid. The underwater world is a tranquil escape where time and daily pressures seem to dissolve. Water and the gravity free environment have many therapeutic healing benefits from fitness to pain relief. This solstice has been one component\, for her\, in managing a diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis in a holistic approach. To this underwater world\, she adds her surreal and playful mix of characters. Children gravitate to water and the joy of swimming. As adults\, we often lose our affinity for this magical place. She visually shares the ephemeral beauty of the way water reflects light in a way we can never experience above the surface. Through this exhibition\, she hopes to connect to viewers in a way that might inspire them to revisit the water and experience it’s many benefits. \nInstagram: @snowbunnymermaid

DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nGallery Level 2\nThe Month of April \n\nMotto:  \nThere is a crack\, a crack in everything. \nThat’s how the light gets in. \n(Leonard Cohen\, Anthem) \n\nA collection of B&W photographs that explores the power of the sun light and its interaction with our daily living. The photographs will take the viewer through the same apartment at different times of the day\, from waking to night. The images let you discover new interesting details of the living spaces that may be otherwise forgotten. \n\nArtist’s Statement – Tony Settari\nTony Settari\, born and trained in the Czech Republic\, developed an early passion for art and music alongside a career in engineering. After moving to Calgary in 1969\, he was inspired by an Ansel Adams retrospective\, which ignited his interest in large-format photography. While his professional career in academia and consulting limited his artistic pursuits for some time\, retirement allowed him to fully return to photography. Today\, his work blends traditional analog techniques with digital processes\, focusing primarily on black-and-white imagery that emphasizes simplicity and minimal reliance on technology.

I don’t chase the perfect mark. Instead\, I let the painting breathe\, revealing its own history through translucent layers….. I like to refer to artwork painted in contemporary Watercolour and Inks as “living works of art.” Translating places into pigments\, into works of art that hold a place within them a connection that resonates with the viewer! Controlled pigments only to a glimpse of premeditation\, ending in energy transformation!
