Attendees can also look forward to a cutting-edge fashion show from innovative Indigenous designers. DESCRIPTION:Alberta Craft is putting on a fun Interactive beginner workshop on Solar Dyeing with Lael Chmelyk. Learn how to extract beautiful colours from different plants using only the sun to drive the process. \nThis workshop will be an introduction to solar dyeing using foraged plants\, kitchen scraps and fabric remnants. We will discuss responsible and ethical harvesting for natural dyes\, as well as fabric preparation including scouring and mordanting. This workshop will spark your curiosity as well as give you the tools to continue this experimentation all year long\, using only the power of the sun to apply colour to cloth/yarn in natural materials of cotton/linen/silk/ wool. Once you try this technique\, everything has the potential to become dye – from your compost to spent blooms.
