DESCRIPTION:Exposure Photography Festival x The Camera Store\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nAll Levels\nFebruary 4 – February 28\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nReception: February 12 @ 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM | As part of cSPACE Marda Loop’s February Showcase Series \n\nThe Exposure Photography Festival is a month-long celebration of photography across Alberta.\nAs part of The Exposure Festival’s Partner Exhibitions\, The Camera Store will transform cSPACE’s four levels of Hallway Galleries with four compelling exhibitions\, offering a dynamic and meaningful celebration of photography’s lasting influence. \n\nLEVEL 1: My life through the lens – Julian Ferreira Exhibition\nJulian Ferreira\, known in the photographic community for being a passionate advocate of the philosophy “always have a camera with you.” Guided by this belief\, he continually observes and photographs the world around him\, creating images as he moves through his Southern Alberta prairie home. From quiet\, expansive landscapes to subtle moments of light and form\, his work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between place\, presence\, and perception.  \nWorking primarily as a fine art black-and-white photographer and co-owner of The Camera Store\, Ferreira’s exhibition presents a selection of his most recent work. These photographs offer viewers an intimate glimpse into the way he sees\, thoughtful\, deliberate\, and deeply connected to the land he calls home\, inviting them to slow down and engage with the subtle beauty found in everyday surroundings. \n\nLEVEL 2: Brian Henson Memorial Exhibition\nBrian Henson was a highly regarded fine art photographer based in Calgary\, known for his dedication to traditional photographic processes and his striking hand-printed black-and-white work. He was also a longtime friend of The Camera Store and a valued presence within Calgary’s photographic community. Brian passed away in 2022\, leaving behind a meaningful and enduring legacy of meticulously crafted\, hand-printed and framed photographs that reflect both his artistic vision and his commitment to the medium.  \nIn accordance with the wishes of his estate\, Brian’s work will be offered for sale\, with all proceeds donated to the RESET Society of Calgary. RESET provides a comprehensive and compassionate system of support services in Alberta\, specifically designed to assist women who are survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Through this initiative\, Brian’s art continues to make a lasting impact\, honouring his legacy while supporting an organization dedicated to healing\, empowerment\, and positive change. \n\nLEVEL 3: Then & Now 30 Years of Calgary Photography\nIn celebration of 30 years within Calgary’s photography community\, The Camera Store is proud to present a special group exhibition. This milestone exhibition highlights the talent\, perspectives\, and creative evolution of Calgary’s photographic scene\, seen through the lenses of a selection of photographers who have helped shape and support it over the past three decades including\, George Webber\, Greg Fulmes\, Greg Gerla\, Jason Stang\, Jeff Bright\, John Dean\, Leah Hennel\, Maja Swannie Jacob\, Mark Vitaris\, Matt and Harry Palmer\, Mike Drew\, Steve Speer\, and\, Todd Korol.  \nThe images are presented side by side\, creating a visual narrative of time\, change\, and creative growth. This exhibition is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Sony Canada\, with additional support from ABL\, the official printing partner of the Exposure Photography Festival.\n \n\nLEVEL 4: The Camera Store Staff Exhibition\nThe Camera Store Staff Exhibition brings together the photographic voices of The Camera Store staff who live and breathe photography every day.  \nThis exhibition showcases a diverse range of work\, reflecting the varied perspectives\, styles\, and stories. SUMMARY:Workshop: CreativiTEA – Presence through Painting
DESCRIPTION:What could be better than art-making\, self-discovery and tea? Learn how the act of painting can calm the mind in this workshop for adults.\n\n\n\nAn introduction to acrylic painting workshop that emphasizes the use of painting as a tool for mindfulness by centring one’s focus on working with the paint in the present moment. \nIn the workshop\, Athena calls on her over 20 years of experience in painting and teaches participants the basics of tracing a design onto a canvas\, applying paint and blending colours. This method of working encourages participants to push past the hurdle of the blank canvas\, allowing them to fully enjoy the benefits of experiencing a painting practice. \nThe inspiration for this workshop came from Athena’s experience with using a paint-by-number kit to create a soothing\, healing environment after a seizure scare in 2021. Using painting as part of her recovery reinforced her belief that by focusing people on the process of painting—as opposed to the final product—one could create a highly beneficial tool for mindfulness and emotional regulation. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nWhat is a CreativiTEA? \nCreativiTEA is an in-person workshop series for grown-ups created by Tilted Windmills that combines fun\, insightful art-making activities with community-building through creativity. \nEach two-hour CreativiTEA session includes: \n\nA guided creative activity with all art supplies provided\nSocializing and discussion with tea and delicious goodies—also provided\n\n  \nWhat you don’t need to bring to CreativiTEA? \nAny concerns about your perceived “artistic ability” or level of “talent”! The workshops are intended for anyone who wants to explore art-making and dive headfirst into the world of creativity. \nTickets are limited! If you can’t make this workshop\, we encourage you to follow our Eventbrite page to be notified of future workshops. \n\n\n\nYour CreativiTEA facilitators \nAthena splits her time between being a professional visual artist and a creativity coach with Tilted Windmills. By blending her training as both a therapeutic arts practitioner and a life coach\, she helps people tap into their creativity and potentially draw forth unexpected insights from the more visual side of their minds. \nStefan is Tilted Windmills’ clinical counsellor and a self-described wounded healer.
