DESCRIPTION:Abstrait Liquide by Patricia Lortie\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nGallery Level 3\nSeptember 9 – October 6\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \n\n\n\nThe Alliance Française is delighted to host “Abstrait Liquide” by Patricia Lortie. \nHer work — including installations\, paintings\, sculptures\, and videos — explores the body’s connection to natural ecosystems\, blending the real and the unconscious to reveal a poetic sensibility. \n“Abstrait Liquide” is a series of acrylic paintings inspired by the movement of natural water systems. Filmed above and below the surface\, subtle ripples\, reflections\, and light guide each brushstroke. The works capture fleeting moments of water\, inviting reflection on nature’s rhythms and patterns. \nThe exhibition will be on view from September 9 to October 6. These luminous surfaces veil the wildfires and environmental upheaval beneath\, asking viewers to look closer at the stories we sugarcoat. \nBartlette’s mixed-media paintings reassemble memory through texture\, collage\, and embellishment. Her work navigates romance\, urban landscapes\, and personal history\, turning fragments of lived experience into lush abstractions. The exhibition examines cloth as a contextual object\, enmeshing ways of thinking and being in the natural world. Kelly-Frère draws on his lived experience of both the Canadian Prairie and a recent artist residency in Blonduos\, Iceland\, to create cloth that reflects situated materialities and our connections to place. \nThis is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend.
