DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2 Gallery \nSolo show of portraits by Lenore Gish. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nI SEE YOU is a tribute to the women in my life.. This collection of work delves into the complex\, diverse and intriguing community of women who have become part of my world. These ladies are a cumulation of family\, friends\, and strangers who have wandered through my studio. \nA number of my works in I SEE YOU are watercolour on paper. I’ve surrounded them with multiple layers of acrylic paint\, paper\, fabric\, inks\, pencil and sewing machine stitches. Using mixed media enabled me to create visual interest and tension on the surface\, emphasizing the beauty and wisdom of my subject. The layering process represents my long history with quilt making\, especially my delight at creating details that can only be appreciated close up. Lastly the stitching is an integral part of my work. Not only is the stitching a part of my history\, it is the common thread between us all. \nIt is my hope that viewers will connect with the narratives woven within each piece. From strength to vulnerability\, resilience to introspection\, “I SEE YOU” is especially sensitive to how woman have struggled to feel ”seen” in history. It is an exploration of identity\, empowerment\, and the universal threads that bind us all. Step into my world where through the language of art\, the female narrative takes center stage.

Launched in 2020 as a 6-part series of online events\, Words In Progress takes the leap into live with its first ever in-person installment\, setting up shop at the High Performance Rodeo. Designed as a platform for playwrights to connect\, converse\, and share their work\, this event features four unique and celebrated playwrights sharing 15-minute selections of plays in development. With plenty of room for conversations\, questions\, and the occasional debate\, Words In Progress invites audiences to cozy up for an evening amongst artists\, offering rare and entertaining insight into the creative process\, and a sneak peek at some of Canada’s next great plays. \nHosted by playwright and curator LOUISE CASEMORE (Undressed\, GEMINI)\, with Special Guest KODIE ROLLAN (Chromatic Theatre). \nFeaturing readings of new plays from STEPHEN MASSICOTTE (Mary’s Wedding\, The Clockmaker)\, NATALIE MEISNER (Legislating Love\, Speed Dating For Sperm Donors)\, TIFFANY THOMAS (The Rocky Mountain Special)\, and ARUN LAKRA (Sequence\, Heist). \nPresented with generous support from the Playwright’s Guild of Canada PlayConnect program\, and One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo.
